The 2011 annual Harry Middleton Lectureship, Sponsored by the LBJ Foundation presents: Former President Jimmy Carter. Jimmy Carter spoke with LBJ Library Director Mark Updegrove. Major topics of the evening included analysis of current events in the Middle East and Jimmy Carter's pre- and post- presidency career. Part II of the discussion touches on Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Bahrain, Iran, Yemen, Syria, Lebanon and Israel and Palestine. Jimmy Carter explores the role of the military in Egypt. He talks about the Obama Administration's reactions to the January 2011 protests in Egypt. Jimmy Carter also talks about Obama's work since taking office, domestically and in the Middle East. He talks about the unprecedented polarization of the nation and of congress. He mentions Ted Kennedy's role in Jimmy Carter's presidency. Carter also Iran and Netanyahu discusses the future of Israel and Palestine.
