Meet a Friendly, Tongue Eating Parasite

Meet cymothoa exigua, a crustacean parasite whose gross out factor is turned up to 11. This creepy crawly makes its living by entering the gills and severing the blood supply to a fish's tongue. Once the tongue is consumed, cymothoa attaches itself to the remaining stub and feeds off of the fish's blood or mucas. The really weird part is that the fish can continue living with the parasite acting as a new tongue. It is the only known parasite that effectively replaces a whole organ in the host!
