Norbert Rodenkirchen plays a medieval transverse flute in the original Romanesque church Maria Lyskirchen in Cologne in September 2016. He improvises a stantipes (estampie) based on the Trouvere chanson "Quant li rosignol joli". According to Grocheo´s treatise "De Musica" from Paris in the late 13th ct. a stantipes was not a dance but a more contemplative piece of music in a complex form. Grocheo also wrote that the estampie had to be followed by an ornamented melismatic "pneuma" in one of the eight modes to which he gave examples. More infos at: www.norbertrodenkirchen.org
