History of temple building in the Latter-days. 8:22 What is the pattern for using God’s name in the past and present? Cross reference Deuteronomy 12:5 and 1 Kings 8:17 with D&C 109: 1,2,4,5,9,17,18,19,22,26,31. The name of Jesus Christ is equated with power. 19:18 Sacrifice brings forth the blessings of heaven. The sacrifice of the early Saints invited significant blessings. Historical details are given about the dedication of the Kirtland Temple on March 27, 1836. 26:49 D&C 109 – The dedicatory prayer of the Kirtland Temple begins with “Thanks be to thy name, O Lord God of Israel”. What is a solemn assembly? 30:36 Verses 7-72. Patterns of discipleship are revealed in the dedicatory prayer. A pattern for what we should do with our own homes, our own lives, and our own souls, a pattern for how to seek learning, and a pattern for prayer. 36:45 When a word or phrase is repeated three times in ancient writings, it creates a superlative. See the repetition in verse 78, “O hear, O hear, O hear us, O Lord.” The Hosanna shout at the dedication of our temples is another example of a phrase repeated three times. 41:59 “The Spirit of God Like a Fire is Burning”, written by W.W. Phelps, premiered at the Kirtland Temple Dedication. Many pentecostal experiences have been recorded in connection with the Kirtland temple dedication. 49:05 D&C 109 – In the closing verses, Joseph prays for their petitions to be answered, for this house to be accepted, for this church to put upon it His name, and for the anointed ones to be clothed with salvation. One week later, April 3, 1836, on Easter Sunday (also the Passover) Elijah appeared in the Kirtland Temple. 57:25 D&C 110 – Jesus Christ appears in the Kirtland temple along with Moses, Elijah, and Elias who committed their keys and dispensations. What is an Elias? The same beings were present on the Mount of Transfiguration. 1:12:48 Conclusion. “Look to the temple of the Lord as the great symbol of your membership.” (President Howard W. Hunter). In the temple, we will find the blessings recorded in D&C 109, “And let these thine anointed ones, be clothed with salvation, and thy saints shout along for joy, Amen. And amen.” ____________________ This channel may make use of copyrighted material, the use of which has not always been specifically authorized by the copyright owner.
