God also wants us to have a sense of steady discipleship and steady preparation. 16:17 D&C 106 Revelation to Warren Cowdery: “The coming of the Lord draweth nigh… gird up your loins that ye may be the children of light.” (See verses 4-5) 23:13 D&C 107 Foundational shift on the administration of the Church. Joseph Smith called the Twelve Apostles in February 1835. This revelation provides clear structure, guidance, and official offices for the Church. 30:24 God gives portions of the priesthood power to men and women so they can do His work. He defines priesthood offices, keys, and power. When men and women are functioning in a church calling, they are using the power of the priesthood. This also applies in a home setting in our stewardship of father and mother. 35:33 What does it mean to preside? To preside in the Church means to serve, nurture, bless, persuade, encourage. The whole point of the priesthood is that God is giving us godly power to do godly things. 39:45 D&C 107 There are two priesthoods: the Melchizedek and the Aaronic. Melchizedek, in Hebrew, means King (or Queen) or Righteousness. The purpose of God’s priesthood is embedded in the name of Melchizedek. 44:39 Verse 3: The original name of the Melchizedek priesthood was “The Holy Priesthood after the Order of the Son of God.” Word study on the suffix “-hood” and the word “order”. Word etymology for suffix “-hood” suggests a condition, quality, a state of being. What is “order” ? The opposite of order is disorder or chaos. A related word is ordinance. Ordinances provide order, direction, and guidance in our lives. 47:23 Verses 9-20 Specifics about the hierarchy of the Church and the offices and authority of the Aaronic and Melchizedek priesthoods. 58:34 The foundational organization of the Church is solid, steadfast, and immoveable. It is also adaptable to the needs of the world around us. The more faithful we are, the more power we are given to bless the lives of others. 1:00:19 The word Quorum means sufficient or sufficiency suggesting enough to make valid decisions. Quorums are to act with one spirit and one mind. Decisions in the church are to be made “in righteousness, in holiness, and lowliness of heart, meekness and long-suffering, and in faith, and virtue, and knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness and charity.” (See verse 30) 1:07:24 Remainder of D&C 107:39 – Office of the Patriarch. 42-54 – Patriarchal order of the Priesthood among the ancients. 68-76 – Office of the Bishop. 85-91 Various presidents who preside over various quorums. 99 – “Let every man learn his duty and act in the office in which he is appointed, in all diligence.” 1:11:59 D&C 108. Revelation to Lyman Sherman. “Let your soul be at rest concerning your spiritual standing.” (verse 2) and “strengthen your brethren in all your conversations, in all your prayers…” (verse 7) 1:13:25 Conclusion: Take correct principles and pray to know how to apply these principles. Don’t hold yourself hostage to past practices. Turn heavenward and seek to Hear Him to learn how to move His kingdom forward.
