It was a very special army called the camp of Israel, or Zion's camp. Let's learn about them by visiting our restoration timeline! Today we're in 1834. 1833 had been a hard and sad year for the members of the church in Jackson County. Do you remember what had happened to the saints that had lived there? They had to run away because of the mobs! Right. Now they were trying to live in the areas surrounding Jackson County, but it was a bad situation. It was in this time of tension that Joseph Smith was commanded to create a small army called Zion's Camp who would march all the way to Missouri. Heavenly Father said they would redeem Zion. This is where things didn't go as planned. They marched a long way. It was hot and unforgiving. There were many miracles that happened, and many men learned a lot. Some of the most famous men in the early church were a part of Zion's camp. Parley P Pratt, Hyrum Smith and many others were part of the group including men who would later become prophets such as Brigham Young and Wilford Woodruff. These men were prepared to fight and die to help the saints in Missouri, but God had other plans. Heavenly Father wanted the church to have strong leaders, and he would need a lot of them. There is the quorum of the 12 apostles, but then are also several quorums of 70's. The church needed a lot of leaders who were righteous and had the faith to follow Heavenly Father, even if it meant walking hundreds of miles, and then being told to just turn around. Wilford Woodruff, Brigham Young and others who were a part of Zion's Camp spoke later in life about the blessings they experienced on that journey and how it had helped them build strong faith. #comefollowme #DoctrineandCovenants #scriptureexplorers #churchofjesuschristoflatterdaysaints #searchthescriptures #comefollowme2021 #D&C29 #lds #ldschurch #hearhim #lighttheworld #mormon
