Have you ever felt that your testimony isn't where you want it to be? The truth is all of us have our testimonies under construction. Through following Jesus and keeping His commandments, we can build powerful and life-lasting testimonies. Join Taylor and Tyler as they discuss some of the trials and blessings the saints faced while in Kirtland Ohio. They wrap up the lesson with a powerful clip from President Russell M. Nelson's recent conference talk. __________________________________________________ Download our free scripture study tool: www.scriptureplus.org/ Sign up for our weekly emails to receive notifications and more Come, Follow Me resources: forms.aweber.com/form/87/2078810487.htm __________________________________________________ 0:00 No matter where we are on the path, our testimonies are under construction. Many analogies and comparisons can be made between building physical temples and building personal testimonies. 4:07 D&C 95 Verse 1: “Whom I love, I also chasten”. What does it mean to chasten? Cross reference with Enos 1:1 and what it means to be taught in the “nurture and admonition of the Lord.” 8:40 Verses 2-4: The Saints are asked to build a temple as the next step. Their obedience is essential to their progression. 13:15 Verses 5-9 What does it mean to be “chosen”? Building a physical temple is an object lesson for what God is trying to help us build as individuals, families, wards, stakes, and communities. Cross reference with 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 and 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 20:20 Verse 11 “If you keep my commandments, you shall have power to build it.” This has application to both temple and testimony building. 25:21 Verse 13 “Not after the manner of the world”. When you don’t have what it takes to complete the task, start working with what you have and then trust in the Lord. 29:47 The importance of the firm foundation. Sometimes we need to go back to the foundation level and strengthen the base. The Salt Lake Temple is being reinforced at the foundation level. Can we apply that same principle in our lives? 34:35 D&C 96 Land purchase for the Kirtland Temple 35:39 D&C 97 Revelation to Missouri Saints given to Joseph Smith just two weeks after their expulsion from Jackson County. Joseph had not yet received letters about this. The Saints are recognized for their humility and desire to seek truth. The Lord promises mercy to those who are meek. 40:57 Verses 7-9 The humble and obedient are accepted by the Lord. “The Lord will cause them to bring forth as a very fruitful tree." 44:18 Verses 15-19 When we are given instructions from the Lord, do we look upward in faith or outward in fear? 48:05 D&C 94. This revelation was given the same day as D&C 97. Additional instruction about building the temple is provided. God has many blessings in store to give after the temple is built. 50:02 Conclusion: Consider how our testimonies are under construction. We are all in different places on the path of progression. The real construction project is your conversion and your eternal life. President Nelson testifies that the gospel is one of repentance, hope, healing, progress, and a message of joy.
