There is a ton in this section! v1- This revelation was given to the Apostles v2- The purpose of this revelation is to help the church understand the purpose of the priesthood and the church organization is to bring about the new Jerusalem and a Zion prepared people that have the ordinances of the priesthood done. v3- The temple will be built (or started) first. v4- The saints were prevented from starting the temple by the persecutions of non members and apostates. v5- This verse can be fulfilled from the kirtland temple or other temples. It does not have to mean the new Jerusalem temple. v14- The book of Adam and Eve tells the story that Melchizedek and his parents came with Noah in the Ark and lived before the flood. He lived for a very long time until he fulfilled his mission. Could this mean that his father received the Priesthood from Noah at some point? Or does it mean that he lived after the flood and lived in the times of Abraham like everyone else? See also Moses 8:2 Notes v16- We know that Enoch was a descendent from Seth so did Abel give it to Seth to hand down or did Abel have children before he was killed and Enoch comes from Abel? The priesthood isn’t always father to son. v16- An interesting connection emerges in the account of how “in the time of Enoch they committed murder, shedding of blood of the children of men; they enslaved them, they sold what did not belong to them, they entered homes without right, and took whatever they wanted . . . they rigged the laws in their favor, and imitated the abominable deeds of the rebellious angels of a former time in which, when Abel tried to check them they encompassed his death by a conspiracy.”326 For this confirms a bold statement found in the Doctrine and Covenants 84:16: “Abel . . . was slain by [a] conspiracy.” Ambition was the motivating force in all this evil. “The giants,” says Ben Sira 16:7, “were aspiring spirits who desired to be great in the manner of God on earth”; E. Kraeling has pointed out that the biblical term “men of name,” means “men who aspired to be great, ‘to make a name' for themselves.”327 Collected Works of Hugh Nibley, Vol. 2: Enoch the Prophet by Hugh Nibley
