Revelation is given on September 22-23, 1832. Explanation of setting and context. 6:04 Section 84 may be divided into the following segments: THE PLACE (verses 1-5); THE LINEAGE (verses 6-18); THE POWER (verses 19-32); THE OATH (verses 33-42); THE WORD (verses 43-60); THE COMMAND (verses 61-20) 8:54 THE PLACE (verses 1-5): The place of Zion or the city of New Jerusalem. Cross reference with Ether 13:3-6. See also footnote 4c – D&C 124: 49-54. 14:45 THE LINEAGE (verses 6-18). Authority matters. A question that both women and men can ask themselves is “who brought me into the covenant family of God?” 19:42 THE POWER (verses 19-32) The new and everlasting covenant is what we have to offer to the world. The covenant has been restored, and the authority to administer the covenant has been reestablished. (see verses 20-22) 23:42 Review of our covenantal connection with God. (see verses 23-24 and footnote 24e – JST Exodus 34:1-2) 29:37 Clarification about the lesser and greater priesthood. What was retained in the preparatory gospel? See verse 27. Cross reference verse 31 about the sons of Moses with D&C 128:24. 35:42 The meaning of order and ordinances. Compare with Section 27 of the General Handbook of Instructions and the 5 Laws given to those on the covenant path. 39:29 THE OATH (verses 33-42). Notice the word "receive" in verse 40. This is God’s oath; He cannot break it. Men and women are taught what they can do to enter into a relationship with God. Cross reference with Genesis 12:1-3. 44:37 THE POWER revisited (verses 33-39) “whoso is faithful . . . are sanctified by the Spirit unto the renewing of their bodies.” 47:31 The blessings of the priesthood are available to both women and men. Conversation with President Russell M. Nelson and General Relief Society President, Jean Bingham. Object lesson of the wedding ring. 50:38 Contrast being loyal and dedicated with modern day perfectionism. 55:03 THE WORD (verses 43-60). The path consists of receiving the word, the truth, the light, and the Spirit. When we come unto God, we are taught of the covenant. Rebuke and correction offered when we find ourselves in darkness or bondage of sin. 59:00 THE COMMAND (verses 61-120). These verses can be viewed as the original missionary handbook. Some verses are not as applicable today (verses 86, 89, 92, 103-104, 107). Adjustments to practices and policies are made according to our time. 1:05:26 “Treasure up in your minds continually the words of life”, “I will go before your face. I will be on your right hand and on your left . . . “, let him that is strong take with him that is weak. (see verses 85-106) 1:11:17 Conclusion: Testimony of God. “Ye shall know that I am, and that I will come and reign with my people.” Timestamps courtesy of Tammy Hulse __________________________________________________ This channel may make use of copyrighted material, the use of which has not always been specifically authorized by the copyright owner.
