HUSBAND. FATHER. SON. ACTIVIST. Egyptian-Palestinian human rights defender Ramy Shaath has spent his life championing peaceful political activism. He has been instrumental in co-founding several political movements in Egypt and championing the BDS Movement, a global alliance that advocates for Palestinians’ rights. On the night of July 5, 2019, Ramy was arrested from his home in Cairo and in front of his wife Céline, solely for peacefully exercising his rights to freedom of expression and to participate in public affairs. Céline was forcibly deported to France that same night. Since then, Ramy’s pre-trial detention has been extended several times, culminating in months of unlawful imprisonment.
