Standing with God might be difficult at times, but it is really the only way to go through life. As Taylor and Tyler unwrap Doctrine and Covenants Section 63, we learn about early saints who fell away and others who stayed true to God. __________________________________________________ Download our free scripture study tool: www.scriptureplus.org/ Sign up for our weekly emails to receive notifications and more Come, Follow Me resources: forms.aweber.com/form/87/2078810487.htm __________________________________________________ 0:00 Historical background for D&C 63. Joseph has just returned to Kirtland after traveling to Missouri and finds apostasy. 2:48 Word study on “apostasy”. It means standing away from or not standing with God. 5:49 Verses 1-2 “Open your hearts and give ear . . . you that call yourselves the people of the Lord” Compare with Isaiah 48 and 1 Nephi 20 as an example of counsel given when Israel was straying from the Lord. 13:14 Verses 6-7 The Saints are in a state of mind and heart that requires course correction. God cautions about sign seeking. A witness is received after the trial of our faith. 17:54 Tyler shares a lesson learned from a family work project. Do we focus on projects and programs or on people? 21:04 Quote by C.S. Lewis: “The problem of pain” When we stray too far from God, He will allow painful experiences to call us back. 24:47 Verses 7-16 Comparison between sign seekers and adulterers who want a quick result without working for it. True discipleship requires work and effort. 31:28 Verse 17 A pattern can be observed. We have commandments that invite us to become like God or temptations that invite us to become like the devil. 33:44 Verses 19-23 Nevertheless there is hope for those who endure in faith. God is creating heaven on earth by helping individuals refine their desires and appetites. 37:38 Verses 26-37 “Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesars”. The building up of Zion will require the purchase of land. It will also require our whole devotion to God that we may achieve His image in our countenance. 42:02 Verse 40-47 The Lord empowers the Saints with agency as He counsels them to send money for the building up of Zion. He promises those who are “faithful and endureth” with power to overcome the world. 44:04 Verse 54 “Until that hour there will be foolish virgins among the wise”. The wise are grounded in ALL truth. 45:42 Verses 58-63 “This is a day of warning. . . let the church repent”. God is all powerful. If we repent, He will own us and help us move forward on the covenant path. 47:15 Verses 64-66 If we find ourselves standing apart from God, we can turn to Him in prayer. 48:14 Conclusion: In times of discouragement and doubt, remember we have a Savior who is helping us overcome the world and become more like Him. The building up of Zion is a process where the Lord builds us individually, and then collectively we join Him in building up Zion.
