Get a life moment interview with Marcus Markou

submitted by Lisa Davies on 05/18/21 1

In today's episode I'm joined by award winning independent film maker, Marcus Markou. I came across Marcus's work quite by accident, or I like to think synchronicity perhaps, whilst searching YouTube. His award winning short film "Two strangers who meet five times" had me captivated, moving me through a full spectrum of emotions in just 12 minutes. Marcus really does have an incredible gift for translating and expressing the human condition, creating a visual masterpiece of the exploration of what it is to be human. Chatting with him, I begin to appreciate just how difficult it is to be an independent film maker, yet his unwavering passion for his art has bought him well deserved recognition within in his chosen industry. Marcus's debut feature film "Papadopoulos & Sons", as mentioned in the interview, was self-distributed by Marcus in UK cinemas in April 2013, achieving the second highest screen average of any film that weekend. This success places the film among the top 5 self-distributed UK films in the past 15 years. No surprise then that Papadopoulos & Sons was bought up by the BBC, ARTE and Netflix. It's such a pleasure to witness a person truly living their purpose and following their passion, Marcus is certainly testament to this.
