There were a lot of members of the church in the early days that came from other churches and they weren't sure what to believe sometimes. In 1831 the church learned a lot about this. There was a man named Leman Copley. He had joined the church but he had come from another church of people who called themselves the shakers. The Shakers were very good people but Leman was still believing in many of the things they taught. Joseph Smith prayed to Heavenly father to ask about some of these things. The Shakers did not believe that people should get married. Heavenly Father has asked us to be married and to have children if we are able to. They also taught that baptism was not important and they believed that Jesus had come back to the earth in the form of a woman named Ann Lee. When Joseph prayed he was given section 49 of the Doctrine and Covenants where Heavenly Father taught us about these things. He taught the importance of marriage, and other ordinances. He also taught that Jesus had not come back yet. This revelation was helpful to many of the saints who were dealing with questions about these things.
