submitted by Linda Hall Library on 05/03/21 1

April 30, 2021, via Zoom Academic and career advice from bear biologist Wes Larson, a.k.a. @grizkid. Following a presentation by Wes, students asked about coursework, internships, college programs, and what it takes to become a successful wildlife and conservation biologist. The speaker: Wes Larson has been passionate about wildlife his entire life. As a wildlife biologist who has specialized in bear species and other carnivores for the last nine years, his work has specifically looked at human-bear conflict and ways to avoid confrontations between people and both polar and black bears. Wes also has done a lot of work in the world of science communication in order to teach people about some of the issues facing species around the world. In addition to educating his 126,000 followers on social media and participating in formal speaking engagements like Tedx Vienna, Wes also hosted Mission Wild with CNN Digital. In the series, he investigated different wildlife biology projects around the world, giving viewers an in-depth and entertaining look at the ways that wildlife biologists are fighting to conserve and protect some of the most beloved and important species on earth.
