Partially open since February 2017, the museum displays a collection of around 50,000 artefacts, presenting the Egyptian civilisation from prehistoric times to the modern era in a more civilised way. "This museum aims to protect and preserve Egyptian heritage from the pre-historical period up to now," Head of archaeology at the National Museum of Civilisation Mahrous Elsanadedy said. The central hall of the museum includes artefacts dating back to the Pharaonic, Roman, Coptic and Islamic eras. "We have unique pieces such as the royal statue of King Akhenaten and the statue of Khonsu as well as medicine and anatomy tools," said Abdelazim Abdulrazak, director of heavy stones lab at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilisation. Pharaonic coffins, royal mummies to Islamic artefacts such as the portrait of the founder of modern Egypt Mohamed Ali Basha and a Roman Obelisk were showcased at the large museum halls. "The best thing about it is the multiplicity of exhibits," visitor Emiel Makram said. "You can see the entire history of Egypt through it," he added. The 22 mummies which are now in the restoration centre before the official opening, will be the stars of the show though, after being relocated from the Egyptian Museum as a result of an increase in their number there. #Egypt #Cairo #AncientEgypt Video ID: 20210404-044 Video on Demand: ruptly.tv/videos/20210404-044 Contact: cd@ruptly.tv Twitter: twitter.com/Ruptly Facebook: www.facebook.com/Ruptly
