FIND YOUR ONE THING When experts come to me after being asked to speak or teach about what they are an expert in, they often wonder how they can possibly fill an hour of time. However, they're an expert, so after we craft out their message they usually wonder how they could possibly fit what they want to say into an hour. Whether your time slot is an hour or a full day, the problem is that we try to fit it all in. Instead of trying to fit what you know into a time slot, start by saying I've got nothing to say and how can I build my message into that time slot. I usually start a consult by asking, "If you could condense your message into one sentence, what would that sentence be?" This is called your "One Thing". When you know what your "One Thing" is, you will be very easy to follow and it will be easy for you to fit your message into any time slot. An audience may not agree with you and may not buy from you, but if they can walk away knowing your "One Thing" then you have done your job. FREE RESOURCES Anyone can become a GREAT communicator!
