The Most Common Question Asked to Speech Coaches
THE MOST COMMON QUESTION ASKED TO SPEECH COACHES One of the most common questions that we get asked at MillsWyck Communications is, "Can you make me a more confident speaker?" Before jumping to the answer we ask them, "Are you any good at speaking?" The response is always no, and that their lack of skills is why they need help. When you ask instead if they are willing to become a great speaker, they almost always respond with yes. After these questions, we can get our answer. We can't make you more confident. Confidence is not something that we can teach you, it comes from inside. Confidence is the inner belief in your ability. If you don't have the ability, then your confidence should be low. Our goal instead is to make you great, which we believe will in change turn your confidence level. There is a chance that you may never be confident, but you can still be great at speaking. We can teach you how to look confident. Plenty of people do this, but are actually extremely nervous. The way that you stand or sit, the way you look, how you pause, and the tone of your voice. All of these things make you look confident, and they are all things that can be taught. You can get these skills in one of our workshops or from a mentor, but you have to practice. We believe very strongly that you have to watch yourself on video, as I will when I edit this video. This will help you become a confident, but more importantly competent, speaker.
