Believers dedicate time to reflection and prayer, while fasting from sunrise to sunset. Many of the world's Muslims, estimated to number more than one and a half billion, immerse themselves in the Ramadan traditions including reciting from the Quran and giving to charity. For some, it is a time to head home and for others, a chance to go visit somewhere special.
