Sneaky Snake - Adapted Folk Dance for K-2

submitted by MrsHiggs on 03/11/21 1

Thanks for stopping by! This is an adapted folk dance for young children based on Phyllis Weikart's choreography. The adaptations allow for students to move in their own space while maintaining physical distancing. This 16-beat choreography repeats a total of 16 times. Basic choreography: Measure 1: clap clap pat pat Measure 2: bend and straighten knees twice Measure 3: heel step twice (once per foot) Measure 4: one full rotation in four beats A fun extension: after students have learned the dance and performed it a couple times, ask them to predict how many times they will repeat the entire sequence of steps. I love hearing their answers because they're usually all over the place! After they guess, have them perform the dance again and choose a student to count the number of times it repeats to see if any of them were close with their prediction.
