Inspired by the sounds of New Orleans, Canal Street Symphony is a great supplement to a unit of Jazz. I plan on using this piece with my own students, and having them compare and contrast the music from this play along with Hipcat Jazz Club. Key: A Major BPM: 96 Durations: Quarter Note, Quarter Rest, Eighth Notes Teaching suggestions: - Pause the video at random points before playing to practice various patterns. - Split the class and have one half perform the top line, and one half perform the bottom line. - Apply body percussion to different note values, or different unpitched instrument timbres.
