We joined the church near the beginning and we got to see a lot of amazing things. You've all been studying a book called the Book of Mormon, but now we're going to help you study a new book called Doctrine and Covenants. Doctrine means beliefs, the things we believe. A covenant is a promise between two people, or in this case promises between us and Heavenly Father. So you could call this book belief's and promises, but that sounds a little silly so we use fancier words and call it Doctrine and Covenants. This book is a collection of important things that Heavenly Father and Jesus taught Joseph Smith, and then he (or a helper) wrote them down. Since things in the Doctrine and Covenants are very different we'll try to help you understand where and when everything happens with our fancy RESTORATION TIMELINE! Watch for this to come up every episode so you can know where we are in the history of the church. We talk about when Joseph Smith saw Heavenly Father and Jesus a lot, we call it the first vision. That's where our timeline begins, in the year 1820. But it was 11 years after that in 1831 when Joseph Smith was inspired to write the first section of Doctrine and Covenants. #comefollowme #Bookofmormon #scriptureexplorers
