Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced on Tuesday a new accelerated-build pilot project in Mississauga, Ontario for two long-term care homes, which he said would each have 320 beds. Ford stated that the care homes would be completed by 2021. “We’re going to push for seven months, unheard of anywhere in North America," he said. The premier was joined by Merrilee Fullerton, Minister of Long-Term Care, Michelle DiEmanuele, President & CEO of Trillium Health Partners, and Bonnie Crombie, Mayor of Mississauga to make the announcement. Ford also addressed young adults on Tuesday, pleading them to hold off from large parties and social gatherings as COVID-19 cases in young people under the age of 39 rise. He told young adults, “you’re hurting people” by not following public health guidelines amid the pandemic. Ford announced on Monday that all remaining regions of the province, except Toronto, Windsor-Essex and Peel, will move to Stage 3 of reopening on Friday, July 23 as Ontario attempts to recover from the pandemic. The decision was made due to three regions continuing to battle spikes in coronavirus cases.
