Ontario Premier Doug Ford on Tuesday announced his government would fast-track the construction of a new long-term care home in Ajax, Ont., that would result in an additional 320 new long-term care beds being made available. Ford said the government will work with Lakeridge Health to ensure the facility is “built in months,” rather than years. The premier also addressed recent outbreaks of COVID-19 in areas, like Ottawa, that had progressed to Stage 3 in the province’s reopening plan and said there is not a plan currently to reintroduce restrictions and move those communities back to Stage 2. He also said the province is working with working with Toronto, Peel Region and Windsor-Essex to move to Stage 3 “as quickly as possible,” and that he would be making an announcement on that topic on Wednesday. Ontario reported 111 new cases of the novel coronavirus on Tuesday, bringing the provincial total to 38,910.
