Jesus used to call himself a shepherd a lot. Jesus often used to compare those who would listen to him as being part of his fold, or his group of sheep. Sheep are known to follow the voice of their shepherd, so if we listen to Jesus's words and follow him we are like his sheep. When he came to see the Nephites he taught them about his sheep. He had a lot to teach the Nephites. One of the first things Jesus did when he arrived to visit the Nephites was to call 12 men to be his disciples. He told everyone there that those men would be able to baptize them and give them the holy ghost. He then began to teach a long lesson to the Nephites that he had taught before. Before he died in Jerusalem Jesus had taught the people there a lesson we often call the sermon on the mount. The lessons he taught were so important that he thought the Nephites needed to know it as well. The Sermon on the Mount can be read in the Book of Mormon and in the Bible. He taught them about a new law. The Nephites had been living a law called the law of Moses. When Jesus suffered in Gethsemane and died on the cross he fulfilled the law of Moses, so now people had to learn to think a little differently. The new law was all about trying to be more like Jesus. Making the right choices for the right reasons. When Jesus had taught in Jerusalem he had talked about other sheep that he had who were not in Jerusalem. That meant that there were other people who believed in him who didn’t live at Jerusalem. He told the Nephites that they were some of those other sheep. He also taught that there were others who believed in other parts of the world that he needed to go visit as well so that all his people could follow him as their shepherd. Remember that the sheep listen to the voice of their shepherd. If we read the scriptures and listen to the holy ghost we can hear his voice and he will lead us. #comefollowme #Bookofmormon #scriptureexplorers
