Did you know the Nephites were in the dark once for 3 days! It was a very bad time for them. The Nephites had been making bad choices for a long time when suddenly something big happened. Samuel the Lamanite told them years before that there would be a sign when Jesus was born, and that sign came. But he also told them that there would be signs when Jesus died, and this is when they started.It began with a big storm, a storm like they had never seen before. Rain, thunder and lightning that was powerful and frightening. Then there were earthquakes, the whole Nephite nation felt the ground shake almost like the whole world was going to break apart! Some were okay, but many of them died. Many of their cities were destroyed by fire, flood or earthquake. There were scary winds that carried people away and then after all these scary things had happened it got quiet, and then it got dark. This was a special kind of darkness. The people couldn't even light fire, or see the sun. For three days the people were in the dark, feeling sad and afraid. They wished they had listened to Heavenly Father and make better choices. Then, in the darkness they heard a voice, it was the voice of Jesus telling them many things. They had been warned that if they didn't repent and make better choices that bad things would happen, but they didn't listen. He told them that they could still repent, that he still loved them and wanted them to have eternal life. He told them many more things, but more than anything else he wanted them to make better choices now. After all this had happened there was a group of Nephites gathered at the temple in the land of Bountiful. Suddenly they heard a voice. It was a still small voice but they could feel it in their entire bodies. They didn’t understand it the first time. It came again, but they still didn’t understand it. Then it came a third time. It was the voice of Heavenly Father. He said “Behold my beloved son in whom I am well pleased. In whom I have glorified my name. Hear ye him. As the people looked around they suddenly saw Jesus coming down out of heaven. He came down and stood among them and said “Behold I am Jesus Christ whom the prophets testified shall come into the world. And behold I am the light and the life of the world and I have drunk out of that bitter cup which the father hath given me and have glorified the father in taking up on me the sins of the world in the which I have suffered the will of the father in all things from the beginning. He then let the people come and see the prints of the nails in his hands and his feet and after they had all seen and felt they all said Hosanna! Blessed be the name of the most high God! And they knelt and worshipped Jesus. He stayed with the Nephites for a time to teach them and help them to learn how to be more like him. So just like you guys were lost in the dark and found a light the Nephites were lost in the dark and they were able to find the light of world in Jesus Christ.
