71-year-old Carla Mauldin has endured chronic back pain most of her life due to an injury she sustained from an accident when she was a child. She lived an active life and never really let the pain interfere with her life. Carla has done chiropractic treatment, physical therapy, pain medications, epidural injections, acupunture, massages and water aerobics, which all helped relieve her back pain, but none provided a more permanent result. She avoided spine surgery because people she knew who had it, did not have good outcome. It was while on a cruise in the Carribean when she was in so much pain and could not do much that she realized to give surgery a try or her quality of life will continue to deteriorate. Her pain specialist recommended Dr. Burak Ozgur, a leading spine neurosurgeon in the US. After imaging tests, she was diagnosed with spinal instability, degenerative discs and spinal stenosis. Dr. Ozgur performed spine decompression and spinal fusion using minimally invasive techniques. In this video, Carla shares how the debilitating back pain threatened her quality of life and her amazement at the outcome of the surgery. She's back wearing high heels and is looking forward to being able to dance the tango again.
