Clip Tip: Why We Soil Test

Why do we soil test.We soil test for the same reason you don’t drive across the country without a map or GPS. Directions are needed and guesswork doesn’t pay off. Soil Testing is an important first step to discovering what nutrients are available in your soil, as well as, what is lacking. Having the correct levels of soil nutrients ensures: you don’t waste money on unneeded product, you don’t damage your lawn with high levels of nutrients, and the environment isn’t harmed with runoff from excess nutrients like phosphorus. The information from a soil test, like the one shown here, allows us to develop an effective, safer, and affordable lawn care program for the specific needs of your lawn. If a lawn care company doesn’t perform a soil test before applying nutrients to your lawn, they may be applying products which aren’t needed. When doing a soil test, aim for a time when the ground is soft. When collecting soil tests, you want to collect soil cores at least 4 inches deep. We typically pull multiple soil samples from various areas of the yard in order to get an accurate profile of the soil health. If you have any questions about soil testing, or would like to have a lawn care professional come out and test your lawn, get in touch with your local NaturaLawn of America franchise location, or visit us on Facebook today!
