Abinadi Testifies of Jesus Christ | Mosiah 11—18 | Book of Mormon

submitted by jenniferbaptista on 05/21/20 1

A Book of Mormon ruler named King Noah leads some of his people to rebel against God. The king replaces good priests with ones who do not keep the commandments of God. The people have to pay taxes to support the king and his priests. The prophet Abinadi warns the people to repent. If they don’t repent, the Lamanites will take over their city and place them into captivity. King Noah and his priests are angry and try to kill Abinadi, but God protects him. Abinadi continues to deliver God’s message to them. Abinadi says the law of Moses points to the Messiah, Jesus Christ, who will come into the world to redeem His people. Then Abinadi teaches them to keep the Ten Commandments and to look for salvation in Jesus Christ. One of the king’s priests, Alma, believes and defends Abinadi. This makes the king and his priests angrier, and Alma has to escape from the king’s guards. The king orders Abinadi to be put to death by fire. Abinadi prophesies that King Noah will die in the same way Abinadi dies. Alma escapes from the city and teaches in private. Many people believe Alma’s testimony and choose to repent and be baptized in the Waters of Mormon. Based on Mosiah 11–18.
