Kris Gilbertson's Lifestyle Entrepreneur Expert John Lee Dumas shares in this interview: John Dumas, How Podcasting Can Establish You as An Expert and Grow Your Business expert began his career miles away from the world of podcasting. After graduating college, he served in the army for eight years, including a 13-month tour of duty in Iraq. When he came back, he tried several different jobs, searching for what he was passionate about, but nothing struck a chord. One thing that was consistent was the amount of time John spent in the car and he was constantly in search of new things to listen to. And that's when he discovered podcasting. John continued to change jobs but his love for podcasting was unwavering. "One day, I was just driving in my car, and I'd run out of content because the podcasts only came out so often," John says. "They were great, but it wasn't nearly enough because I was in the car for hours every day. I was at the gym on the treadmill, and I wanted more and more and more, and so I had that 'aha' moment. " That same day he created Entrepreneur on Fire, his daily podcast featuring interviews with successful entrepreneurs. John leveraged his connections that he'd formed at Blog World to book different guests for his show and within seven months of his launch date, hit 175,00 downloads. Coming into the podcasting world with zero experience, John understands people's anxiety about inviting big-names guests to appear on their shows. "I didn't have an audience," John says. "I just had a dream and a vision, and I let that hold me back for way too long. Everybody is out here looking to help each other because there's an infinite amount of space, time, clients, love in this Internet community. We are all combining forces and combining our audiences to better ourselves and it's so much fun." John Lee Dumas attributes much of his success to his "tribe", which he calls "Firenation," and he stresses the importance of including your audience in your show as a way to make them feel included in the process. "I think there's nothing you could do these days that's better than actually reaching out," John says. "That's the great thing about podcasting; it's not words on a page. It's not just people reading an actual post; it's about them hearing my voice and developing this relationship with me."
