Daytime Emmy-nominated TV special originally broadcast on American and Canadian TV in March of 1978. What can a teenager wrestling with adolescent growing pains, and a poor, lonely woman burdened with the hardships of Old age possibly have in common? Plenty. Mrs. Griffin (Esther Rolle, GOOD TIMES), poor but proud, teaches Shawn the wisdom that comes with age. She shows Shawn that life is like a flower, opening up to reveal inner beauty, Shawn Leach (Tina Andrews, ROOTS), young but determined, shows Mrs. Griffin that senior citizens have rights too! They both find that you're never too old, or too young, to learn and to love. This award-winning drama traces a teenage girl's efforts to organize her peers to help obtain fuel rebates for senior citizens living on fixed incomes. It is based on the true life accomplishments of t4-year-old Shawn Leach, who is credited with founding Black Reality, a public service organization formed for young adults committed to serving the Black community.
