The Phat Startup sat down with Jason Evanish, product manager at KISSmetrics, to talk about customer development, how The Notorious B.I.G.'s song "Juicy" inspired one of his most popular blog posts, and why he would want Jay-Z, Richard Branson, and Mark Cuban in the same room. In talking to customers, Jason's three-step program is easy for any entrepreneur to follow. First, find out your customers' demographics, what they're interested in (in relation to the field of your start-up). This helps break the ice and calm your nerves. Second, focus on the problem. Ask your customers what their biggest issues are. The key here is "not leading the witness", says Jason. Third and final, pitch your solution in the framework of solving the problems you just talked about.
