The Battle of Beaver Dam Creek (Mechanicsville) marked the beginning of Robert E. Lee’s counter-offensive against George B. McClellan as the Federal forces moved towards Richmond on June 26, 1862. This helped initiate the Seven Days Battles of the larger Peninsula Campaign.
