Found Luten Double Arch Bridge and Civil War Bridge Remains! Although it cannot be proven 100%, this double arch bridge is thought to have been designed by well-known early 20th century bridge designer and builder, Daniel B. Luten (1869-1946) of Indianapolis. He was awarded more than thirty patents for his improvements of the Luten arch design. According to Luten, he had designed over 17,000 Luten arch bridges and there were examples in all but three states. This bridge has design characteristics indicating it was most likely Luten's design. Unfortunately, the plaque that would have had this information and most likely who built it and when was stolen some time ago. I contacted the state department of transportation to see if there were still any records with any information. No information was available. It appears that based on information available about Luten's career, this bridge was most likely built sometime between the late 1900's to the 1930's. Nearby are the remains of a much older bridge, possibly built during or around the time of the War Between the States. The stone abutments are all that remain. This is #RealUrbex.
