Don’t you just love those accidental finds that turn out to be a surprise? This was one of those explores. I had some business in the Middleboro area so I was on route 105 just trooping along and I noticed a road that was clearly unused, it had a chain blocking it. I parked at the store across the street and walked on over and in. I later found out I was wandering around the abandoned Lakeville State Sanitarium/Hospital. There were so many buildings to walk around in and I tried to just jam it all in one video so pardon the length and I value your time ☺️ It was such an awesome find and these type of random finds are my fav’s. As always, Happy Exploring 🍃 Lakeville Hospital, also known as the Lakeville State Sanatorium, was a state-operated sanatorium in Lakeville, Massachusetts. The sanatorium opened its doors in 1910 for the treatment of those with tuberculosis. In the 1950s, following a decline in the number of tuberculosis cases, the sanatorium began treating patients with other crippling conditions. In 1963, the Lakeville State Sanatorium was renamed the Lakeville Hospital. Pursuant to recommendation by the Special Commission for the study of the Consolidation of State Facilities, the hospital was closed in 1992. The hospital was known for providing Heliotherapy and had one the few state of the art facilities in the world to practice it. 🔹 Detailed history & dates of Lakeville Sanitarium can be found here www.asylumprojects.org/index.php?title=Lakeville_State_Hospital 🔹 Last known plans for the area, an article from Dec. 2017 www.southcoasttoday.com/special/20171204/new-owners-share-plans-for-lakeville-hospital-redevelopment?template=ampart
