"Just like our District schools are offering a variety of opportunities to students and families, it is important that a rating system does the same. Rather than designating a numerical score, it is critical that families really understand a fuller snapshot of each school they are considering. This means, a snapshot that captures the school culture and climate, including data around teacher retention and teacher-children interactions. It is also essential that families get a true sense of academic growth and achievement with measures that highlight the work being done every day by students and teachers. Those capture more fully what families want to know as they consider schools -- not just a number to rank schools from. Rather, families want to have a picture of what schools are really like, from the quality, happy teachers that exist within them to the rigorous curriculum and opportunities that grow their whole child."
