www.onehourprofessor.com/truth-about-online-business/ *** Click above to learn the TRUTH about online business and what it really takes to succeed *** Today’s lecture is all about how to install Google Analytics. We’re going to break this lecture into three parts, we are going to talk about: - How easy it is to install Google Analytics - Why you have to install Google Analytics on all pages of your website -Walkthrough/Screen Share THE EASE OF INSTALLING GOOGLE ANALYTICS Starting off let’s talk really quickly about how easy it is to install Google Analytics. A lot of people think that installing Google Analytics is a difficult task, I’m here to tell you it literally takes a minute. It’s not difficult to do at all, even if you don’t understand how to do coding within a website, or you’re not a programmer, no reason to worry at all, and like I said at the end of this we will walk through the process, and I’ll show you how easy it is. WHY YOU HAVE TO INSTALL GOOGLE ANALYTICS ON ALL PAGES OF YOUR WEBSITE In terms of why you want to install Analytics on all pages, and really this come to you, you want to install Analytics on the header or footer of your website, preferably the header, because it’s the easier one to even understand, but the reason why you want to do this is that, if you install Google Analytics just on your homepage of your website, then what’s going to happen is, every time somebody comes into your website on the homepage, they’re going to come in, they’re going to start getting tracked on the homepage of your website within Analytics, and then if they go to a different page on your website, which they most likely will, Analytics will read it as they left your website. WALKTHROUGH/SCREEN SHARE OF INSTALLING GOOGLE ANALYTICS It’s going to say, “What is your website name?”Mine Is going to be Nationwide Contractors, it is going to be www.nationwide1987.com. This is actually a website I’m setting up for my dad, he’s owned his own business for some time, so I wanted to get Analytics on it for him. “Select industry category”, I didn’t really anticipate this part, we will just say, I guess we can go with Business and Industrial markets. U.S. Pacific time? No, no, no I want Central Time, and then that’s it, it’s that simple. Here’s what’s going to happen, we’re going to click “Get tracking ID”, and then it’s going to give us this tracking code. This is where people get confused, they see tracking code, they flip out, they think, “Oh, geez, I could never do a tracking code.” This is your tracking ID, UA38687717-4, this is obviously my Google Analytics ID, you’ll have a different one yourself, and then this is the tracking code, this is the easy part, you’ve already gotten through the hard part, let me show you how easy this is. We’re going to CTRL+C, to copy that, and then we’re going to go into, assumably you’re in Word Press. I always say to use Word Press because, it’s the easiest CMS in my opinion, I love Word Press for that, but basically we go into here, you go to “Appearance”we go to editor, we go down to here. You can select footer if you know what you’re doing, but just to make this even easier let’s select header, and this will be on every theme that’s out there. This is the standard them, we’re going to “click on header”, and here we go this is what it is that we’re looking for, and basically you want to put the code in between here, where it says “head” and here, where it says “backslash head.” You don’t want to enter up to anything here, you don’t want to put it in the middle of this. All we’re going to do is go to the bottom if it, we’re going to press “Enter” twice, CTRL+V, this is the Analytics code as you can see, we’re going to scroll down, update the file, and we’re done. That’s it, that’s all it takes to install Google Analytics. Then we can actually go to, just to verify, we can go to www.nationwide1987.com, we go to right click, we click “View page source”, and this is a little too big for the screen here, so I’ll do this. Then we do CTRL+F to find, and we’ll type Analytics, and there it is, that’s the code for Google Analytics. That’s one way to do it, that’s the simplest way to do it you guys, I would recommend you do it that way.
