Visit my website: www.edafeokporo.com Copyright Tenement Museum Finding a safe place to call home is essential for new arrivals, and perhaps even more so for LGBTQ refugees who are fleeing their home countries because of violence and religious persecution, but also due to the fact that being LGBTQ is still a crime in many countries. Edafe Okporo, an activist, refugee, and director of a homeless shelter, is joined by others to talk about the challenges LGBTQ refugees face in finding a safe place to live, as well as a welcoming community, once they have arrived in New York City. Following the panel discussion, attendees are invited to view a NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt display and browse a specially curated selection of books and merchandise in honor of World Pride in our Museum Visitor Center and Shop. Members at the Contributor level and above are able to reserve seats. If you are a Member and would like to reserve seats, or are interested in membership, contact us at membership@tenement.org or by phone at 646-518-3007.
