A general strike takes place in Hong Kong on Monday, September 2. The strike is expected to be joined by trade unions, professional associations and students, among others. Demonstrations against a now-suspended legislative amendment proposed by the government have been taking place since the end of March. The suspended extradition bill would enable Hong Kong to consider extradition requests from countries where there is no prior agreement, including mainland China.
