In 2018, hip hop artist Kendrick Lamar made history when his album DAMN. was the first work of popular music to win the Pulitzer Prize in Music. In this talk, Dr. Stephen Grandchamp (Postdoctoral Fellow of Digital and Public Humanities at UMF) provides an introduction to hip hop by exploring Kendrick Lamar in context of the genre’s sustained engagement with political and social issues.
