Dr. Michael Johnson, Professor of English at UMF, situates Spike Lee's BlacKkKlansman within the history of African-American cinema going back to the work of Oscar Micheaux, while also exploring how these filmmakers have responded to the pervasive racism of D.W. Griffith's The Birth of a Nation.
