Interview with Jenny: Calling on the federal government to stop penny-pinching low-income seniors!

submitted by saltalberta on 04/19/19 1

April 18, 2019: Why is the Federal Liberal government one the one hand, giving out $12 million for fridges to a company owned by one of the wealthiest families in Canada, and on the other hand, making low-income seniors who use public transit report their BC Bus Pass as income on their income taxes? I held a press conference to raise this concern and call on the government to scrap this tax measure that will negatively impact seniors living in poverty. Seniors living in poverty in my constituency are very worried about this. this year, for the first time, they are now having to report the BC Bus Pass T5007 slip as income on their taxes, which could impact both federal and provincial tax credits --- penny-pinching low-income seniors for whom every single dollar counts.
