Steelton's West Side was virtually a stand-alone community with its own schools, bakeries, housing developments and even an ice skating rink! The West Side connected the rest of Steelton with the mighty and unpredictable Susquehanna River--which was one of its greatest strengths and, ultimately, also led to its demise.
