#Cocoapolice #officerbodycam #policeshooting Cocoa, Floride --- A shooting in which a Cocoa police officer fired six shots through his own windshield at a man who was holding a cellphone has been deemed justified. The man who was shot was walking toward the responding police officer in the darkness on Forrest Avenue. The officer thought the man was holding a gun. Keith Seal, 54, was shot in the elbow on Dec. 11. He survived the shooting. A report released Wednesday by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement reveals what happened at 4:30 a.m. that day and it declares that the shooting was justified Officer Xzevies Baez, in his patrol car, was approaching Seal, and without any verbal exchange or physical confrontation, fired six shots through his windshield. As he got out of the car, you can hear the man yell, "Don’t shoot! I give up!" The officer, unsure of the situation, calls for backup and then begins to realize the man he shot was not armed. Baez: Where’s the gun? Seal: I don’t have one. Baez: What was in your hands? Seal: My cellphone. Other officers arrive, and Baez explained himself. He said, "No signal zero," meaning Seal was unarmed. “No signal zero. He just started running at me with a black object in his hand before I could go.” Baez said. “I'm focused on whatever's in his right arm. He's about to lift it up and, I just, that’s when I believe I was going to be shot at,” Baez is quoted as saying in the Florida Department of Law Enforcement report.
