After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he joined Special Forces and served as a UDT/SEAL from 1969 to 1973. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he returned to Minnesota and, while attending community college, started training to become a professional wrestler. Ventura began his successful professional wrestling career in 1975. By the mid '80s, he had moved from performing in the ring to serving as a color commentator. In 1987, Ventura starred alongside fellow future governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in the hit film Predator. He has since been featured in numerous films and television shows, including a fan-favorite appearance on The X-Files, in which Ventura played a "Man in Black." The next decade saw Ventura enter the political arena. He first served as mayor of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, and in 1998, made political history when he ran as an independent outside of the two-party system, shocking the world to become governor of Minnesota. After he left office, Ventura became a visiting fellow at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government. The former governor is a New York Times best-selling author of six books, including American Conspiracy and his latest work, Democrips and Rebloodlicans: No More Gangs In Government. Ventura currently resides with Terry, his wife of 35 years, in Minnesota and Mexico.
