From being there for the start of Rupert Murdoch's FOXNews empire, to inspiring Robert Downey Jr.'s character in Natural Born Killers and his current global gonzo escapade, "High There," Wayne Darwen tells all on Buzzsaw. He talks us through the rise of tabloid journalism in the mainstream media, and the last refuge for real reporters, all with his unique and spirited voice. GUEST BIO: Wayne Paul Darwen is a veteran print and TV journalist of more than 35 years, during which time he's worked in various senior capacities for major newspapers, magazines and TV networks around the world. He is also a successful independent TV writer, director and producer who was one of the founding fathers of the popular tabloid genre, which would come to change the face of TV news, and spawn the birth of today's generation of reality TV. He is now considered a legend of the genre and, in fact, was the living inspiration for Robert Downey Junior's character - TV newsman Wayne Gale - in the Oliver Stone movie, Natural Born Killers. He was also one of the main characters in the book 'Tabloid Baby,' in which his life and times were chronicled by longtime colleague and author Burt Kearns ADD'L LINKS: www.hightherethemovie.com/ Buzzsaw Shorts Playlist: www.youtube.com/watch?v=OTpYzcRoyrw&list=PLjk3H0GXhhGe43WJvnvzBPLaJrRVSUmxb&index=1 Buzzsaw Full Episodes: www.youtube.com/watch?v=2D5jNcVdnOg&list=PLjk3H0GXhhGc7NOFr74KbOPBCXrXT8nlf www.facebook.com/pages/Buzzsaw/315063551949301?directed_target_id=0 www.facebook.com/thelip.tv EPISODE BREAKDOWN: 00:01 Welcome to Buzzsaw and introducing Dave High (Wayne Darwen). 01:57 Falling into journalism and the start of tabloid news magazines. 04:36 Interviewing David Berkowitz, the Son of Sam. 08:45 Working on High There. 12:37 Legalization of Marijuana. 16:24 Robert Downey Jr.'s inspiration in Natural Born Killers. 20:30 The Bill O'Reilly school of journalism (and bullshit). 23:02 Getting a start from Rupert Murdoch. 26:40 Corporate entities running politics and media.
