Mondays from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. January 25 - March 7, 2016 (no class Feb.15) University Hall Room 150 Dante’s Divine Comedy weaves together European history, Greek and Roman mythology, and a heretical view of Christianity to create a moving story of transformation and hope. We will approach the poem through passionate storytelling, extraordinary art (Michelangelo, Botticelli, Rodin, Giotto, and Dali), and moving musical examples by Tchaikovsky, Liszt, and Rachmaninoff. Each artist brings this foundational work of Western culture to life in riveting ways. Kayleen Asbo, Ph.D. teaches at the San Francisco Conservatory and for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes at UC Berkeley, Dominican University, and Sonoma State University. She also lectures for the SF Opera and Santa Rosa Symphony. Her courses draw on her background in music, art, psychology, mythology, and religion.
