Following the defeat of its Arab clients by Israel in the June 1967 Six Day War, the Soviet Union attempted to salvage and enhance its influence in the Middle East with an unprecedented deployment of Soviet troops and equipment--including MiG-25 aircraft--to Egypt. (ref: HAPP 20091019)
