Statesmen's Forum: Rt. Hon. Michael Fallon, UK Secretary of State for Defence

submitted by Marvin's Underground Evening Lectures on 10/12/18 1

In Defence of a Rules Based Order: Transatlantic Security Cooperation in a Dangerous World Please join us for a timely discussion with the British Secretary of State for Defence, Michael Fallon, on transatlantic security cooperation and the United Kingdom’s defense policies during a time of great international uncertainty. The UK has always been the first among the United States’ most reliable partners in defending the post-World War II international order. With potentially historic parliamentary elections on the horizon, what future role will the United Kingdom play in confronting these growing challenges to international stability? What will the 2015 Strategic Defense and Security Review (SDSR) tell us about this future role? What is Whitehall’s assessment of the medium to long-term security threat emanating from Russia? How will Britain defend NATO’s strategic interests in the Mediterranean as the conflict in Libya escalates and as Russia enhances its military presence in Cyprus? From a budgetary perspective, can Britain maintain a security presence in the Asia-Pacific region while engaging in a crisis-management role in the Middle East? Introductory Remarks by: Dr. John J. Hamre CEO and President, and the Pritzker Chair CSIS Moderated by: Heather A. Conley Senior Vice President for Europe, Eurasia, and the Arctic; and Director of the Europe Program CSIS csis.org/event/statesmens-forum-featuring-rt-hon-michael-fallon-uk-secretary-defense
