Dr. Haider Al-Abadi is prime minister of the Republic of Iraq, a position he has held since September 2014. Prior to this, he served as deputy speaker of parliament, and minister of communications in the Iraqi Governing Council. He was also elected to the Iraqi parliament in 2005 and 2010 as a representative of Baghdad, and has chaired the parliament’s finance committee and committee for economy and investment. Before returning to Iraq in 2003, Dr. Al-Abadi worked as a high-tech transportation design and development consultant in the United Kingdom. Dr. Al-Abadi earned his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Manchester.
