Hidden Inheritance: Objects, Memories, and Collections

submitted by Marvin's Underground Evening Lectures on 10/10/18 1

October 5, 2010, The Getty Center Artist, curator, and author Edmund de Waal discusses the history of the Ephrussi family as collectors and patrons of the arts. Using examples from his family collections—some now at the Getty—as well as the story of the netsuke that he inherited, de Waal, a descendant of the Ephrussi, explores the ascent and decline of a Jewish dynasty and the meaning of loss and diaspora.
